Family favorites in Sacramento Area

I wanted to share a few of my favorite finds in Sacramento, a couple restaurants that my family and I return to again and again and one that makes for a great special-occasion meal.

Spicy Salmon Hand Roll, Mikuni

-- Awful Annie's -- With its rustic decor and friendly atmosphere, this family owned restaurant is a perfect place to go for brunch. There's sure to be something on the menu to please everyone, among them scrambles and omelettes, waffles and pancakes, quiche, and a large variety of sandwiches. And you must try the biscuits - they are absolutely wonderful! They have two locations, in Auburn and Lincoln.

-- La Provence -- This french restaurant in Roseville looks like an elegant Mediterranean villa inside and out, with its stunning decor including a large fireplace, exposed wooden beams, and spacious garden patio. It makes for a beautiful, even romantic setting, in the evening as the suns begins to set. The management is extremely friendly and the dishes are full of flavor.

-- Mikuni -- This sushi chain in Sacramento and Tahoe (and apparently Denver) has delicious sushi with a large variety, almost too many, rolls to choose from including cooked and vegetarian options for those not inclined to eat raw fish. They also have great terriyaki and tempura. Additionally the bright interior in the Roseville location is a refreshing change from the usually dark lighting and decor of sushi restaurants.
